The short version

Chat responses on ScholarSynch are generated automatically. They draw on official data sources, but they can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong — always verify important details (deadlines, costs, requirements) with the school itself. If a response ever seems wrong, inappropriate, or harmful, report it. A person on our team reviews every report.

1. How chat works

The chat assistant answers questions about colleges, scholarships, and financial aid using data from sources like College Scorecard, IPEDS, and official scholarship listings. Responses are produced automatically, not written by a person, which means:

  • A response can be inaccurate or outdated even when it sounds confident.
  • Nothing in chat is professional advice — admissions, financial, legal, or otherwise. Treat it as a starting point for your own research.
  • Decisions about applications, enrollment, and money deserve verification with the school or program directly.

2. What's not allowed

The chat is for college search, scholarships, and financial aid planning. Don't use it to:

  • Attempt to generate content that is harmful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, or dangerous — including content involving minors.
  • Harass, threaten, or target another person.
  • Probe for personal information about other students or families.
  • Spam, abuse, or attempt to break the service (automated scraping, flooding, or working around usage limits).

We may end conversations, remove content, or suspend accounts that violate these rules.

3. Reporting a response

Every assistant response in chat has a Report action beneath it. Reporting takes two taps:

  • Tap Report under the response, then pick what's wrong: not accurate, inappropriate, harmful, "don't show me this again," or something else (with room to explain).
  • Your report saves a copy of the response exactly as you saw it, so our team can review it even if the conversation is later deleted.
  • A person on our team reviews every report, typically within a few days. Reports directly shape fixes to our data and how the assistant responds.

You can report whether or not you have an account — guest conversations can be reported the same way.

4. Your controls

  • End a conversation anytime. Use New Chat to leave a conversation and start fresh — nothing from the old thread carries into the new one.
  • Don't show me this again. Choosing this report reason tells us a kind of response you don't want to see; our team uses these reports to tune what the assistant says.
  • Delete your history. Signed-in users can delete any conversation from the chat sidebar. Guest conversations that are never linked to an account are deleted automatically after 30 days.
