1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the ScholarSynch platform at scholarsyn.ch (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agrees to these Terms on your behalf. Users must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
2. Description of Service
ScholarSynch is an educational technology platform that helps students, parents, and counselors with college search, scholarship discovery, financial aid estimation, deadline tracking, and campus visit planning. The Service provides:
- A searchable database of 3,000+ U.S. colleges and universities
- Scholarship search and profile-based matching
- Merit scholarship browsing across institutions
- Financial aid estimation tools (SAI/EFC calculator)
- A conversational college advisor for personalized guidance
- Deadline tracking for applications and scholarships
- College comparison and campus visit planning tools
- Multi-profile management for families and counselors
3. Account Registration and Eligibility
To access most features, you must create an account with a valid email address and password. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account.
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update your information as needed. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that contain false information.
Users must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Users between 13 and 17 may create accounts independently but are encouraged to involve a parent or guardian.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service or its systems
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without our written permission
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any entity
- Upload malicious content, viruses, or harmful code
- Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others
- Reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service without authorization
5. Intellectual Property
The ScholarSynch platform, including its design, code, text, graphics, logos, and other content (excluding user-provided data and third-party data), is the property of ScholarSynch and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service without our prior written consent.
6. User Content and Data
You retain ownership of any personal data you provide to the Service (profile information, documents, messages). By providing this data, you grant us a limited license to use, process, and store it solely to provide the Service to you.
You are responsible for the accuracy of information you provide. You may export, modify, or delete your data at any time through your account settings.
When you share your profile with other users (parents, counselors), you control the level of access granted. You can revoke shared access at any time.
7. Third-Party Data Sources and Disclaimers
ScholarSynch aggregates data from third-party sources including the U.S. Department of Education (College Scorecard, IPEDS, Clery Act), the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, and institutional Common Data Set reports.
While we strive to keep this data accurate and up-to-date, we do not guarantee the completeness or accuracy of third-party data. College-specific information (tuition, admission rates, deadlines, and financial aid) should be verified directly with the institution before making enrollment decisions.
ScholarSynch is an informational tool, not a substitute for professional college counseling, financial advice, or legal guidance. Recommendations and estimates (including SAI/EFC calculations) are approximations and should not be relied upon as guarantees.
8. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information. By using the Service, you consent to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ScholarSynch and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of opportunity, or financial losses arising from:
- Your use of or inability to use the Service
- Inaccuracies in third-party data displayed on the Service
- Decisions made based on information provided by the Service
- Unauthorized access to or alteration of your account or data
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ScholarSynch, its operators, and affiliates from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another.
11. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time through the account settings page. Upon termination, your personal data will be deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at our discretion if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or use the Service in a manner that could harm other users or the platform.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice on the Service or emailing your registered address at least 30 days before the changes take effect.
Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms are posted constitutes acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
14. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
